Water-jet assisted technique
It is one of the most popular methods for getting rid of fat deposits that are stubbornly resistant to exercise and diet: liposuction. Various invasive liposuction techniques can get unwanted and hard to remove fat deposits under control.
Water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL)
Water-jet assisted liposuction enables particularly gentle and low-pain liposuction.
Unlike conventional liposuction techniques, water-jet assisted liposuction gently detaches the tiniest fat particles from the tissue, ensuring that the uniformly suctioned autologous fat cells remain largely intact and alive. In contrast, traditional liposuction techniques were originally developed to rupture the fat cells and thus to destroy them – using suction force (‘suction effect’), cavitation or thermal effects.
However, the more delicate the liposuction procedure is, the higher the quality of the fatty tissue and the higher the number of living fat cells and therefore the better the prospects of successful growth of the injected fat cells with an autologous fat transplantation.
Autologous fat transfer
The suctioned living fat can be used, for example, for lasting correction of volume deficits or asymmetries of the breast or to reconstruct a natural breast.
Autologous fat transfer (also called autologous fat transplantation) is now almost 120 years old. Gustav Adolf Neuber (1850–1932), a German surgeon from Kiel, designed and constructed the world’s first antiseptic apparatus for fat transfer and carried the procedure out for the first time in 1893.
The procedure itself has a colourful history – from initial euphoria to the first complications to being banned. Autologous fat transfer has since proven to be a safe and effective method (learn more here).
Water-jet assisted fat transfer
Over the last few decades, various techniques to harvest and distribute fat were developed. The collection and preparation of fat for autologous fat transplantation in particular was often a laborious and time-consuming process.
Water-jet assisted fat transplantation is efficient and gentle to the fat cells and eliminates the need for elaborate centrifugation and any other preparation of the fatty tissue. The harvested fat is gently separated from the remaining fluid in a special container and can be immediately used for water-jet assisted fat transfer.
